Prepare Your Trees Now Before the Summer Storms Hit

Storms often blow in from the bay during the summer months. The strong winds, heavy rain, and lightning can leave behind severe damage to your trees and property. To avoid this, you can take advantage of tree service storm preparation. This service provides your trees with their best chance of surviving the area’s worst storms.

Thinning the Canopy

Thinning the canopy allows the wind to pass through the branches without damaging them. When the tree canopy above your property is too dense, it functions like a sail on a boat. The wind catches it and shatters the branches. Even worse, it could push the trees over.

During our tree service storm preparation, we’ll remove the excess branches in order to avoid these problems. When we’re done, you’ll still have a canopy that will provide you with the shade you want during the summer heat.

Annual Pruning

Pruning is a good way to ensure that any limbs that are at risk of snapping off during a storm are safely removed. This includes all old or dying branches that could crack under pressure and land on your roof, power lines, or other structures.

Pruning also keeps trees from being weighed down by excessive limbs. A top-heavy tree can easily topple over during a strong gust of wind.

Proper Shaping

By having us shape your trees properly, we encourage a strong branch-to-trunk size relationship. Lateral branches need to be no longer than 3/4 of the diameter of the trunk. Branches that are bigger than that are too heavy for the trunk to support. When wind and rains come in hard, they’ll be the most likely to break.

In addition to removing the heavy branches, we’ll make sure your trees maintain a stable center of gravity. If a storm hits and there’s too much weight on one side or the other, it can snap the trunk or even cause the entire tree to fall over, roots and all.

Routine Inspections

The best way to protect your trees from storm damage is to have them routinely inspected. During an inspection, we’ll look specifically for signs of damage or vulnerability. This could be as obvious as visible cracks on the limbs or trunks. Signs of decay or hollowness are harder to spot.

Other things we’ll look for include leaning, multiple joined trunks, and deformed branches. We’ll assess the condition of your trees and let you know if they’re at risk of falling during a storm.

We can help your trees survive this year’s summer storms. Pruning, thinning, and shaping will reduce the risk of damage to them and your property. Call South Coast Outdoor Service today for all of your tree service storm preparation needs in Mobile, AL.
